COMP 205: Web Developer: Programming for the Web


This 30-hour course provides introductory instruction that creates a foundation knowledge on the following topics:
  • Perl Scripting including developing Perl scripts, scalar variables, array variable, associative arrays, Perl operators, conditional statements, loops, using arrays, associative arrays, and more.
  • CGI Scripting including using Perl for CGI, developing CGI scripts for Perl, creating simple CGI scripts, forms-processing with CGI, and more.
  • Java including introduction to Java applications and applets, programming environment, security features, Java data types, creating Java programs, Java AWT, Java applets, decision structures, and more.
  • ASP, VBScript, and Database Management including ASP object codes and components, VB script syntax, conditional and flow control, database management overview, RDBMS on the web, RDBMS access, data set names and ODBC, ASP and SQL databases, CGI access to RDBMS, creating database driven Websites, and more.
  • Please note that more advanced study in these individual areas is recommended. Students should have some general programming expertise or more advanced experience with HTML prior to taking this course or the following advanced courses.
