VPN

Description: VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. A VPN allows you to use the ISP (Internet Service Provider) of your choice and connect to NJIT to use services normally restricted to use on campus. It does this by providing a "Virtual" network connection to NJIT. That is, even though you are connected to your ISP, it appears that you are actually connecting from NJIT.

Why it is needed: The VPN connection should be used when you need to connect to protected NJIT network services from off-campus. These include but are not limited to:

• Logging into the ADMIN computer and administrative systems.
• Connecting to NJIT's Library Databases.
• Using NJIT News servers and Discussion Groups

NOTE: When connecting to unrestricted services, such as browsing the Web, using WebCT and WebBoard, you only need your ISP connection and a VPN connection is not needed. VPN is only required for access to protected services at NJIT.
