Health Insurance
Portability & Accountability Act

Is your organization prepared to vault the administrative, privacy and security hurdles of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act?

HIPAA was designed to protect personal health information while ensuring quality, coordinated healthcare delivery. NJIT CPE will enable healthcare providers to protect the privacy of citizens’ health records by training them to comply with federal mandates. Large and small health organizations must be HIPAA compliant (at least for the first set of regulations) by October 2002, with ongoing additional regulations added over the next several years. The program’s goal is to demystify the complex requirements and enable organizations to increase productivity while containing costs and avoiding substantial penalties. There is a huge audience for this training, since it affects everyone from individual physicians to insurers, pharmacists, hospitals, and all related health industry participants. We can help you simplify for businesses and/or individuals the nuances of the federal protection of our personal health information.

NJIT's HIPAA Awareness overview course allows healthcare owners and business managers to gain a clear understanding of the HIPAA regulations and their impact as well as providing an effective road map to compliance. It also discusses New Jersey’s Healthcare Information and Network Technologies (HINT) laws and how they affect healthcare providers.

HIPAA legislation affects the entire healthcare community and deadlines are fast approaching. In order to avoid penalties and realize cost savings through standardized claims processing, your organization should prepare and implement HIPAA technology enhancements and organizational changes as soon as possible.

Doctors, hospitals and insurance companies must comply with HIPAA legislation by October 2003 or face severe penalties, including fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to ten years.

With U.S. hospitals allocating an estimated $18 to $43 billion for HIPAA compliance over the next five years, the ability to understand and implement HIPAA regulations will be critical for healthcare owners and business managers.

eLearning @ NJIT:

According to Yahoo! Internet Life (1998-2001), New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is the country’s perennially “most wired” university -- a distinction primarily due to our prowess in anytime, anyplace, online learning. As the university which coined and trademarked the term, “Virtual Classroom®" in the 1980’s, now NJIT offers instructor-led eLearning short courses for K-12 educators.
