NJ Dept of Labor Training Grants
NJIT Continuing
Professional
Education works with New Jersey-based organizations to help obtain
training grants from the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce
Development. CPE helps conduct needs analysis, the actual drafting of
the grant application, procuring instructors, and administering the
program. (Note: NJIT does not charge the applicant any fees for this
service.)
About the Program
Customized Training is a
component of the Workforce Development Partnership program, which was
authorized by the 1992 New Jersey Employment and Workforce
Development Act. The objective of the Customized Training program is
to enhance the creation and retention of high wage, high skill jobs
in New Jersey through comprehensive workforce training and to assist
in building a highly skilled productive, globally competitive
workforce. Millions of dollars are allocated each year.
Eligibility / Conditions
To be eligible for
Customized Training funding, the proposed training program must
address one of the following needs:
- Creation, retention, or upgrading of labor demand occupations
- Prevention of job
losses as a result of a potential facility closing, national or
international competition, or changing technology
- Creation of jobs as
a result of a company relocating or expanding into New Jersey or
starting a business in the state
Application Process
NJIT will assist the
applicant in completing the online application process. Part I of the
application determines eligibility, and if the Office of Customized
Training determines that the application meets the initial
eligibility and selection criteria, NJIT will assist in the
completion of Part II of the online application that details training
courses, and justifies the need and costs to establish the actual
amount of the grant request.
